Restaurant Noise

June 25, 2014

On the heels of the article by Hanna Raskin about restaurant noise, published by The Post and Courier, we would like to feature our project grō in Matthews North Carolina. grō is a small fast casual Greek restaurant with a focus on fitness and a goal of changing the perception of Greek restaurants by adjusting the food preparation, presentation and space design.

The store is located in a strip mall and was previously used as a Five Guys. The kitchen is open and most of the exterior walls are glass. We knew from the beginning that noise could be an issue but we also knew we wanted to develop a signature ceiling feature that would not only convey movement and energy but also provide some acoustic baffling. You can see in the attached rendering, which we presented early in the process, that the conceptual design remained fairly un altered through execution.

We found it to be a successful design move and look forward to pushing this line of thinking further in upcoming projects.
