Charleston Fireplace

The Owners of this house wanted to increase the visual connection between the kitchen and living room. A wall with a large cased opening separated the rooms and bifurcated an interesting pair of corner fireplaces. The wall was removed and they asked me to help detail the new fireplace surrounds with a more modern take on a mantle.Ultimately, the design was not used as I encouraged them to expose the handsome brick work and leave the fireplace as an artifact anchoring the two rooms. The Owners have very good taste and had considered the option but were hesitant. In the end, a very small amount of design work made a large impact on the house.
